Is the Social Media Ruining Students?

(10/3/13)
I think social media is ruining students because the pros don't outweigh the cons. Social media brings down people more than it helps them. Students say they feel better writing on twitter, but you can do the same thing in discussion forums on Moodle. It's the same thing except you can write more. Social media ruins a lot of things. It makes people become more dependent on technology and they're becoming incapable of doing things themselves. Hardly anybody can do even their times tables without a calculator. It's pretty sad.. While doing things on the internet help out people by saving paper, it ruins people's face to face social skills.

Banned Books

Of Mice and Men - In Of Mice and Men, Lennie kills a lot of small animals, and in the end George kills Lennie. I can see how some people would find these books offensive or obscene. I do find this book to be a good piece of literature, but I can also see how some people wouldn't want others to read it.
The Giver - The Giver would be banned probably because there's this man who is giving this child these dreams so he can experience things, and some of the dreams are kind of obscene.
Harry Potter - I can see how some people would find this book offensive and would want it banned. Some people might see magic as evil and against their religion and wouldn't want that in the library their friends are reading from.

John Greene

I agree with a lot of the things he mentions. He talks about how we find education unimportant as high schoolers, but it probably will help us later on, we're just too stubborn to realize it now. We know that all these great things happen and people make them happen like the landing on mars, but we don't understand it because we haven't been taught the way to do it. School, beginning at kendergarden, is the base of what kind of education we will get and what kind of world everyone will be living in years from now. You never know who is going to become a genius until they actually go through the learning processes everyone else has to go through, and advance themselves as much as possible.
